Burberry Hydrangea Pink vs. Tom Ford Narcissist blush

Hi all!

I wanted to make a quick post before I head on over to the doctor's office. Basically there are people who are wondering how the two blushes compare in terms of color and formula.

Amount of product you get:

Burberry: 7 grams 
Tom Ford: 8 grams

The biggest difference is the texture. Tom Ford's is drier and not as easy to apply compared to Burberry Hydrangea Pink. HP is smoother, creamier to the touch, hence the nicer texture, and easier to apply. 

I will say I do prefer Narcissist color wise -- it's slightly more vibrant and a cooler based pink. 

Basically for those who missed out on Narcissist, Hydrangea Pink is a nice alternative and it's a bit cheaper.

Burberry Copper Lip Mist

This post is dedicated to Sethakins7. We had a conversation about nude lip colors, since that's what he likes, whereas I barely own any. Well I own a couple, but they're pinky nudes. 

Since his aesthetic is wearing less pink, but more nude...I suggested Burberry Copper lip mist. Copper is one of those shades that I kept trying out at the counter and enjoyed, but never purchased for a long time since there were other items I bought instead. I even had a few testers that lasted me a while. 

Finally I got the full size lipstick, and so it goes...

Packaging: standard Burberry packaging, pewter, bulky, checkered pattern. Not much else to say. 

Formula: lip mists are really balmy, light weight, and moisturizing on the lips. If you like Guerlain Rouge Automatiques, or Chantecaille lip chics, or even Cle de Peau lipsticks, then you'll definitely like lip mists. They're not really sheer in opacity, but have a nice sheen (no glitter). Copper in comparison to the couple of other lip mists feels even more balmy. The downside that I find a bit of a pet peeve is constantly reapplying, but that's to be expected from a non matte or long lasting lipstick. 

Color: it looks like a peach shade on some people (there's a few reviews out there on Copper). If you have pigmented lips, the color comes out more neutral than a strong warm shade. It's the closest thing that I have lipstick wise to a nude/peach color, but it isn't really a peach when applied.

Burberry Lip Velvet in Pink Azalea +

I know some of us have been waiting for the new Burberry Lip Velvet reviews...and I've have a few in my possession over the past few days. Here's my first review on Pink Azalea.

Packaging: Burberry has the same design of the lipstick tube, but a major difference -- the cover is a darker grey and it has a matte finish. I love the appearance of the matte tube, but I still dislike the bulkiness, Burberry checkered pattern.

Formula: definitely long lasting, and have a silicone like slip when you first apply it. Over time you do feel that the formula sinks into your lips and the slip fades as well. It feels a bit odd in the sense that that it feels drying. I'll get used to the feeling I think. In the end, my lips didn't feel/are drier, though. But, if you find Armani Rouge d'Armani lipsticks drying, then you may find these drying too. Test them out just to make sure. They do have the signature fig scent like other Burberry lipsticks (by the way).

It appears velvet in finish at first, then fades into a matte finish. It's definitely not a flat matte either. 

Longevity: I did a few test runs with Azalea Rose and day 1 it lasted me 6 hours with significant fading. During that time I ate two meals, three beverages, did a lot of speaking. One of the meals had a lot of oil and grease (yay junk food) and the lipstick didn't slide off. 

With a greasy meal, the lipstick vibrancy stayed the same, and there is some transfer on a straw (drinking iced tea).

Day two with just speaking, no food: almost 8 hours.

The lipstick does fade evenly over a bit of time, which is really nice. I can say that after hour 5, it fades off unevenly a bit. No flaking either.

some thoughts: A few months back, a Burberry associate compared these to the Shu mattes (from years ago). They're completely not the same. I prefer the Shu since it doesn't have that bizarre cling feeling, and the Shu lipsticks faded over time a bit better over the Burberry.

I do like them, but for some reason I'm not floored or as excited as I once was over them. The best part is that they're not drying and do last a bit. Sure, I'll buy a couple of more shades since I like a matte finish, but I'm sure in the future someone will hopefully create more matte lipsticks.

Burberry Fall 2012 + (edited)

This will probably be the shortest review I'll write to date. Main reason since there's no need to explain the formula and packaging of Burberry since there's enough reviews (and my previous post) on all of that information. 

LET'S GET TO THE COLORS !!

Dark Sable: Finally, a crease color that I've been looking for. I never owned MAC *edit* Coquette, but it's the color and formula I wish Coquette was. I've swatched it enough to have an idea of what it looks like, but of course with MAC eyeshadows, the textures are lacking with some of their mattes. Dark Sable is a cool dark brown with a hint of grey. Coquette in comparison is a bit warmer than Dark Sable.

Mulberry: a warmer shimmery dark brown, leaning burgundy, but it's not red enough to be considered a true? burgundy. Ok maybe it can be considered burgundy. I don't have a similar shade like this in my stash. At first thought seeing it in the pan, I thought it would be too warm or just too "much" for my eyes. After seeing that it wasn't super warm, I had to get it. 

Sepia Pink lip cover: a dark rose with some brown and a hint of purple in undertone. This color slightly amplifies my lip color, and adds a touch of brown. Such an elegant color for fall. For those who are my skintone and (or) have pigmented lips: RUN OUT AND GET THIS COLOR !! Of course if you're not afraid of a little brown. There's nothing wrong with of brown on the lips, but too much can be overwhelming on very fair skintones and (or) those with really pale lips. I'm generally not a fan of super brown lipsticks either. Some brown glosses are okay in my book since it's a sheer formula. Even the Burberry associate asked me to wear it because she wanted to see how it looked on me. She gasped with glee when she saw it on me. I actually like the color a lot and the definite surprise of the collection.

I know many of you have been requesting Burberry posts...you'll be seeing more of them, I promise :) 

So back to Rosewood ...

Packaging: definitely hefty pewter colored packaging with the Burberry check pattern. I personally hate the pattern and the bulkiness of it. It's a magnetic clasp so the lid stays shut, plus it's not a fuss to open. It does come with an eyeshadow sponge applicator. My ideal packaging would be a bit slimmer, and instead of the sponge applicator, a small brush instead. Ok I can't win it all, but I do appreciate that they really care about solid packaging. I wish I could depot these eyeshadows since they take up a good amount of space. Has anyone tried depotting them? I'd like to know if it's possible.

Color/Formula: of course it's a pretty taupe. it's not the typical cool undertone silvery taupe. It's definitely a warmer in undertone. It's somewhere between a warm taupe and a warm brown. I don't consider it a warm brown, because in my mind a warm brown is a color like MAC cork and espresso. There's no sparkle, but there is a definite soft sheen. At times it has a soft pink cast under certain lighting. The formula is definitely creamy, buttery soft and just easily glides onto your skin. To those individuals who are just starting out with makeup and want a small set of amazing neturals to start, Burberry is a wonderful place to start. They seriously blow a lot of brands out of the water with beautiful colors and textures.

I've been wanting to say that awesome things have been happening to some of my best friends (in the world that is New York City) -- three of my friends have new jobs!

Dustin who most of you may know about since I've featured his creations (kaleidoscopes) for Le Metier de Beaute, will no longer be with them as of the end of this month. He'll be the store manager for Bare Escentuals (BE) flagship boutique on 34th Street. I know some people have been asking as to why he would leave a luxury brand, only to work for a mid-end range brand. The short answer is that BE is offering him better opportunities for his development, plus being with a company that is changing since they're owned by Shiseido. Of course there's more reasons which isn't my place to say, but he's really excited with his new adventure. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments section.

What does this mean for the black panties? Well a very simple answer: I really don't have a reason to visit the Le Metier de Beaute counter anymore. I own basically what I've liked from the line. The only things I've really enjoyed from the line were his creations. I don't think most people really know that the reason why I even started blogging, is because Dustin suggested it. He would see all the luxury makeup I'd buy aside from Le Metier de Beaute and he wished that he would see reviews on the stuff I'd buy (specifically in reference to my By Terry purchases). Lo and behold, here I am :)

Joey who some of you may know since he was featured here on PinkSith doing bunny's Armani makeover. He'll be joining the NARS team over at their boutique on Bleecker Street. It's been a brand he's always been passionate about, so it's great to see him with a company he really adores. So if you ever want an awesome experience in picking out makeup, or want an amazing makeover over at the NARS boutique, ask for him :D Even though I can buy NARS from SpaceNK, I'd rather buy it from a knowledgeable person who always picks out the best things for me. Considering he used to work for lines like Shu Uemura, MAC back when it used to be cool...I know I'm always in good hands :)

Last, but not least...one of my best friends...let's just call him P, got an awesome job as well, but he works in the tech field. I'm convinced I'll slowly get him to buy all the makeups !! not that he needs it since he has the perfect face :)

I've been in a rut of sorts, plus the summer heat has made me less inclined to wear makeup in general. there's probably the fact too that i'm not a fan of summer collections. Don't even get me started from what i've seen for this fall so far, I'm a bit let down since the colors aren't quite my thing (NARS i'm looking at you).

But anyways, here's what I've gotten :)

Burberry Pink Heather Lip Mist (210) [edited]

So I had to make my rounds the other day to check out the Burberry summer collection. Saw the face powder, swatched it a few times on my face with a brush (with and without foundation) and honestly didn't see the appeal. I was about to walk away from the counter altogether...until i saw the lipsticks next to the powder as I was putting back the powder in its appropriate place.

Then I swatched them on my arm, and from swatches I liked the pink shades. So then I cleaned them...one of the pinks looked kinda bad due to the shimmer. Then, there she was in all of her glory...Pink Heather lip mist. Applied that bad girl on...and I walked out with that.

Considering I've been wearing Pink Heather for a bit and really liking the shade, it took me a while to think/process what I like/dont like for some reason. Sorry for being semi-late to the review.

Packaging: Not a fan of the Burberry "check" pattern, nor the square tube packaging. Aside from that, it's a weighty lipstick, which I personally like. Another small tidbit that I'm not too keen on the weak magnet that holds the lipstick cover to the base. In a situation that you apply the lipstick on and place the lid on, sometimes it doesn't snap shut since the magnet has to be on a specific side. Does that make any sense? So if I put it on the "wrong" way, I have to swivel the lid until you feel the magnet clicks into place. I like to apply my lipstick and as soon as I put the lid on, that's it. nothing else. Ah well maybe it's just me.

 

Formula and Texture: The lip mists are creamy with a slight balm feel. The formula doesn't settle into lip lines, or accent flaky patches. If you're a fan of Chantecaille Lip Chics or RBR Succulence of Dew formulas, then you'd really like the Lip Mists. The coverage isn't that sheer considering the balmy formula. There's a smell to the lip mists too -- like powdery almost fig like smell? I can't describe it. It's definitely present when you apply the lipstick, but on the lips alone, I don't smell it (after a few mins). The lasting power is only about 2.5-3 hours on my lips, like most hydrating/balmy lipsticks. For longer lasting formula, check out their lip covers.

edit: an aspect that i like about the lip mist is that they dry down to a matte finish, without drying your lips. generally with formulas that are not full on opaque, they tend to be glossy, but this isn't.

Color: It's a soft, cool pink. It's definitely a "my lips but better" range of pink with no shimmer at all. I like this shade since it's a bit lighter than my natural lip color. Why I like it is that I can wear it by itself (with no/minimal eyeshadow) and it doesn't look like concealer lips. The shade is in the same vein as Armani Rouge d'Armani 103, but 103 is definitely more beige in undertone (and the formula is completely different). The difference is definitely more stark when it's on the lips.

Burberry No. 22 Pale Barley Sheer Eyeshadow

Let me start off as to why it took me this long to review Burberry Cosmetics...because my thoughts can help explain my review on the product:

As some of you know, Burberry was only sold at a very few Nordstroms, and my closest one was in Paramus New Jersey (not near me at all). I refused to buy anything online sight unseen. Then it became available at my local Saks this past fall and when they first arrived there, I wasn't in a rush to see the counter. Plus the biggest deterrent was the packaging. I seriously dislike Burberrys packaging...so much that it took me this long to buy something from them.

And when I finally went to the Burberry counter back in October, I was a bit ... let down. I saw the colors and they're all muted, flat colors (in the pans). Nothing stood out at a first glance to me. I've realized then that I like makeup lines that have some color variation (mixture of neturals and color eyeshadow...and so on...)  

I then realized I needed to take Burberry cosmetics for what it's worth -- makeup that's pretty much fail proof in terms of a soft, everyday, work appropriate look. You can pack on the eyeshadows and it will still be a soft eye, that will never be too dark like a dark smokey eye. A fellow makeup girl I speak to, described it best: it's what Bobbi Brown cosmetics COULD have been. Soft colors with nice textures that are staples in your everyday work bag.

Ok, so I went back to the Burberry counter and saw their Spring/Summer collection. For the few moments that I stood at the display, an associate came up to me and asked me if I needed anything...and then I decided to really sit down and really experiment, since it wasn't busy.

And so then I left with a few products...including Pale Barley Eyeshadow :)

Color: its this beautiful beige leaning taupe shade, with this subtle sheen. I want to say it's neutral, but ever so slightly warm in undertone. I can see myself wearing it on the lid every day. I couldn't help but stare at it in the pan, and even when swatched it's just a beauty on it's own. The sheen isn't over the top, either. I'm definitely smitten with this shade.

Packaging: Yes I dislike the Burberry pattern, and the packaging is on the bulkier side. It has a little mirror, which is convenient. The Burberry pattern is embossed on the eyeshadow too (gag). I do like the magnetic open/close and it's pretty sturdy overall. 

Texture and Formula: The texture is definitely soft and creamy. It reminds me of a Dior eyeshadow in terms of how creamy it feels against your finger. The downside is that the eyeshadow by itself (no primer) is that the eyeshadow doesn't last long at all on your eyelids. On me it lasts like 2 hours with visible fading (and keep in mind its winter so my skin is drier). With primer, the lasting power is much better. I know most people only wear eyeshadow with primer. I work long hours and I have my makeup on for over 18 hours at times, and I do like my eyeshadows to perform well on its own. I'll get over the subpar lasting power on its own, but it is something to keep in mind.
